It all started with nuns walking through the flats where we grew up. These nuns offered FREE SEWING LESSONS to our parents.

At the age of 6 we went with our moms for sewing lessons while we were kept busy with drawings, painting and puzzles. At the end of the course they blessed our moms with machines which they used to sew our clothing and make aprons, tracksuits and uniforms for schools.

My mom would buy fabric, cottons etc with the payment she received from making clothes. The joy on her customers' faces was priceless.

As I grew older I realised that I loved beautiful creations that made people happy. We would bead, cut and sew till into the early morning hours to make deliveries on time. As a child I started selling clothes, hats and jewellery for pocket money.

Growing up in Hanover Park was not easy because my parents could not afford to send us to study further. My aunts encouraged me to study design and paid for my course.

After my studies I worked and achieved much success. After ups and downs I finally am designing my own BASIC ideas and loving it.

Simplicity is the key to my designs and everyday lifestyle. I aim to create styles that I would wear and that would suit many others too.

Our fabrics are locally sourced from small businesses. Our go to is Tamir Tex in Kenilworth.

We are blessed with an amazing team of seamstresses who share our passion for quality. They take pride in every piece they produce.

We have the most wonderful team of ladies who are responsible for the beautiful garments. They are retired and work from home to earn a living and support their families. We treasure their work and dread the day they retire from BASIC. They live and work on the Cape Flats.

Our garments are cut by a small local business. They are always willing to advise and help us save on our ratings. The owner is meticulous and double-checks every piece to ensure he gets it right. We are truly blessed to have an amazing team helping us deliver high quality locally made garments!

I am truly thankful for the great support system. My mom was my greatest inspiration. She was the kind of woman who would cook and clean while creating the most beautiful dress, all in one day. A real super-mom!
